About Vulo

Why we built Vulo

Most financial products in South Africa are sold through intermediaries who are paid commission by the provider whose product they sell — funeral cover, where a broker's commission rides on the plan they place, is simply the clearest example. Which means the product recommended to you is often the one that pays the intermediary the most, not the one that best fits your household. That's not a knock on any individual broker; it's how the incentive is built. Vulo removes that incentive entirely. We don't sell policies, we don't take commission, and we don't get paid more for recommending one provider over another. We simply lay out what each plan actually offers, in plain language, so you can decide for yourself.

How we collect and verify data

Every figure on Vulo is pulled directly from official provider pages, policy documents, brochures, and pricing catalogues — not sales scripts, not call centre estimates. Where a provider publishes benefit tables, waiting periods, price schedules, or plan tiers, we transcribe them directly and cross-check the numbers against the provider's own current page before they go live on Vulo.

This compilation work is done with the assistance of AI tools, reading and transcribing from providers' own sources rather than generating figures from scratch. That still means mistakes are possible — a source misread, a page that changed after we checked it, a figure transcribed wrong. Every plan carries a link to exactly where its numbers came from and when we last checked, so you can always verify it yourself before deciding anything.

How often data is updated

We review every provider's data at least once a year, and we spot-check sooner whenever a provider publicly announces a rate or benefit change. Every plan shown on Vulo carries a source reference so you can always verify a figure yourself.

Spotted something incorrect?

A monitored channel for reporting incorrect figures is being set up and isn't live yet. In the meantime, every plan on Vulo links to the exact source it was read from — checking that source directly is the fastest way to confirm or correct anything you're relying on.

What Vulo earns

Stated plainly: right now, nothing. The full comparison is free while we build out the number of plans we cover. A once-off charge for the complete comparison and a PDF report is planned, and this page will say so before it starts. No commission, no referral fees, no paid placement — the ranking you see is based purely on fit for your household.
