What Vulo is

Vulo compares financial products sold in South Africa — currently cellphone contracts, funeral cover, retirement annuities, and school fees. It is a research tool. It earns no commission and takes no payment from any provider, so no product is promoted because it pays us more — nothing does.

Vulo is not a financial adviser and is not a registered financial services provider under the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act (FAIS). Nothing on this site is financial advice or a recommendation about your circumstances. We do not sell products, arrange them, or act between you and any provider or school. Where the site ranks results or labels one a “best match,” that ranking reflects how closely a result fits the answers you gave in the comparison tool — a mechanical calculation against your own inputs, not a personal recommendation, an assessment of your needs, or advice of any kind.

Vulo is currently operated as an independent project and is not a registered company. Using this site does not create any relationship between you and a corporate entity that does not yet exist.

Compiled with AI assistance

The figures, plan details, and written summaries on Vulo are compiled with the assistance of AI tools working from providers' own published pages, brochures, and pricing documents. AI-assisted compilation can still misread, mistranscribe, or misinterpret a source document, and the underlying documents themselves change without notice. You must independently verify any figure with the provider before relying on it for any decision. Every plan on Vulo carries a link to the source it was read from and the date it was last checked, specifically so you can do that.

How accurate the figures are

Every price and benefit on Vulo is taken from a provider's own published document or page. Each result shows the source it came from and the date we last checked it against that source. We do not estimate, interpolate, or fill gaps: where a source does not state something, Vulo says it is not specified rather than guessing.

Even so, you must confirm any figure with the provider before you decide anything. Providers revise pricing, brochures, and rate tables without notice, and a figure that was correct on the date shown may since have been superseded. We may also make mistakes — in reading a source, in transcribing it, or in how the site displays it.

Nothing on Vulo is a quote, an offer, a contract, or a promise of cover, service, or enrolment. Only the provider can quote or contract with you, and only they can tell you what you would actually pay once your personal circumstances are assessed. Figures shown are what the provider publishes for the inputs you selected, before any underwriting, credit check, stock availability, or eligibility assessment the provider itself applies.

Illustrative, “from,” and quote-only figures

Some providers publish a figure they themselves describe as illustrative and not binding, or a price their product “starts from” rather than a fixed rate table, or no price at all. Vulo labels each of these plainly wherever they appear and excludes them from “lowest price” comparisons — they are shown so you can see the shape of the product, not as a price you can hold anyone to.

Products you may not be able to buy directly

Some cover — funeral cover in particular — exists only through an employer or another group scheme, and some cellphone deals depend on stock, network coverage, or credit checks the provider applies at the point of sale. Vulo shows these where it has the data, because knowing they exist is useful, but they are never presented as something you can necessarily take out yourself, and group or negotiated rates are not comparable with what an individual pays retail.

How results are ordered

Results are ranked by how closely each option fits the answers you gave in that category's comparison tool, combined with published price. Options that fit poorly still appear; they rank lower. Ordering is not influenced by any payment, because we accept none from any provider.

Third-party sites, images, and links

Vulo links to providers' own pages so you can verify a figure and, where relevant, act on it — those pages are entirely outside our control, and we are not responsible for their content, availability, or accuracy. Device photos on Vulo are loaded directly from the relevant provider's own website; loading a page with a device photo on it sends a request to that provider's server the same way any embedded image on any website does (see our privacy policy).

Acceptable use

Vulo is provided for personal, non-commercial use in evaluating financial products and services. You agree not to scrape, systematically extract, or republish Vulo's data at scale; not to attempt to interfere with, overload, or gain unauthorised access to the site or the systems behind it; and not to use the site for any unlawful purpose.

Intellectual property

Vulo's own text, design, and software are its own or used under licence. The product data displayed remains the property of, and is sourced from, the provider it names — Vulo makes no ownership claim over it. Provider names, logos, and trademarks belong to their respective owners and are used here only to identify the products being compared.

Liability

Vulo is provided “as is,” without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including as to accuracy, completeness, or fitness for a particular purpose. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage — direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential — arising from your use of the site or a decision made on the strength of information found here, including where a figure was out of date, incomplete, or wrong. This does not limit any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded under South African law.

Your policy, contract, account, or enrolment, and any dispute about it, is between you and the provider. Vulo is not a party to it and has no ability to alter, honour, or enforce its terms.

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless whoever operates Vulo against any claim, loss, or expense arising from your use of the site or your breach of these terms, to the extent the law allows.

Changes to these terms

These terms may change as Vulo adds categories or as our understanding of what needs disclosing improves. The date at the top of this page changes whenever the terms do. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the terms as updated.

Governing law and severability

These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa, and any dispute is subject to the jurisdiction of its courts. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.

A monitored contact channel for questions about these terms is being set up and is not live yet.
