The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are now on contract in South Africa, and the same phone does not cost the same on each network. We read the live catalogues of all four to see what it comes to.
The short version: the cheapest 256GB iPhone 18 Pro on a 36-month contract is R1 119 a month at Telkom, and R1 299 at both Vodacom and MTN. Across the full contract, that's a R6 480 difference between the cheapest and the dearest open deal.
The iPhone 18 Pro, 256GB

Over 36 months that's R40 284 at Telkom against R46 764 at Vodacom, a R6 480 gap, and Telkom's plan has at least as much data as the other two. MTN's price is real, but only an existing MTN customer can take it.

The Pro Max costs R80 a month more than the Pro at Telkom and R50 more at Vodacom on 36 months, so the gap between the two phones is small next to the gap between networks.
More storage costs more, but by less than you'd think
Stepping a 36-month iPhone 18 Pro from 256GB to 512GB adds R150 a month at Telkom (R1 119 to R1 269) and R200 a month at Vodacom (R1 299 to R1 499). Over the contract that's R5 400 and R7 200.
Both networks also sell 1TB and 2TB sizes. At Telkom the 2TB Pro is R1 979 a month on 36 months, and at Vodacom R2 399. MTN's listing in our data stops at 512GB for the Pro, and at 1TB for the Pro Max.
A lower monthly price usually costs more in total
The 36-month price looks much better each month. Whether it's better overall is a separate question:

Going from 24 to 36 months cuts the monthly bill by R440 at Telkom and R500 at Vodacom, and adds R2 868 and R3 588 to the total. A longer contract is a way to spread the cost, not to reduce it. (The totals are the monthly price times the number of months; they assume no price change during the contract.)
What to watch for
- The plans aren't identical. Vodacom's lowest-priced iPhone 18 Pro plan has 5GB; Telkom's and MTN's have 6GB. We show the lowest price on each network, not a like-for-like data comparison. If you need more data, the price rises on all of them.
- MTN's deals are for existing customers. Every MTN iPhone 18 Pro price we hold is an "Upgrade Only" one, so we have no MTN price a new customer can take.
- Vodacom also sells 48-month deals. Vulo doesn't show 48-month prices yet, so a longer Vodacom contract exists that isn't in the tables above.
- Cell C doesn't list it yet. On 30 September 2026, neither the iPhone 18 Pro nor the Pro Max appeared in Cell C's live online catalogue. That can change at any time.
- No standard iPhone 18. None of the four networks lists one today.

- Choose the contract length first. Compare the total, not just the monthly price.
- Compare the data as well as the price. The cheapest plan is often the smallest.
- Check who can take the deal. Upgrade-only deals are for existing customers.
- Check the price on the day. Contract prices move, sometimes within a week.
