Samsung's current flagship family comes in three tiers, and a phone at this price makes the contract the biggest cost in your year. We compared the Galaxy S26, S26 FE and S26 Ultra across Vodacom, MTN, Cell C and Telkom, using the lowest-priced plan each network lists for the phone, on 36 months unless we say otherwise.
Who lists which
| Model | Vodacom | MTN | Cell C | Telkom |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| S26 FE | Yes (128GB, 256GB) | Upgrade Only | Yes | Yes |
| S26 | Yes | Upgrade Only | Listed, no plan price we could read | Yes |
| S26 Ultra | Yes (256GB, 512GB, 1TB) | Not listed | Yes | Yes |
"Not listed" means the phone was not in that network's catalogue when we read it on 7 October 2026. "Upgrade Only" means MTN's deals are open to existing MTN customers only. Both can change.
The Galaxy S26, 256GB
| Network | 24 months | 36 months | Plan at that price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Telkom | R949 a month (R22 776) | R699 (R25 164) | FlexOn 2, 2GB, in-store catalogue price |
| Vodacom | R999 (R23 976) | R749 (R26 964) | RED Core, 3GB (24 months: Red Flexi 245) |
Telkom is cheaper by R1 800 over 36 months, with a plan that has less data at the entry level (2GB against Vodacom's 3GB). MTN's S26 is "Upgrade Only", at R749 a month for existing customers.
The Galaxy S26 FE, 256GB
| Network | 24 months | 36 months | Plan at that price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vodacom | R899 a month (R21 576) | R679 (R24 444) | RED Core, 1GB |
| Telkom | R929 (R22 296) | R699 (R25 164) | FlexOn 4, 4GB |
| Cell C | R949 (R22 776) | R699 (R25 164) | Elevate 1+, 1.5GB |
This is the closest of the three: Vodacom is cheapest by only R720 over 36 months, and Telkom's plan has four times the data. Vodacom also lists a 128GB S26 FE at R579 a month (R20 844 over 36 months), the cheapest way into the family. MTN's S26 FE is "Upgrade Only" at R679.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra, 256GB
| Network | 24 months | 36 months | Plan at that price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Telkom | R1 449 a month (R34 776) | R1 099 (R39 564) | FlexOn 4, 4GB, in-store catalogue price |
| Cell C | R1 499 (R35 976) | R1 149 (R41 364) | Elevate 2+, 3GB |
| Vodacom | R1 699 (R40 776) | R1 249 (R44 964) | RED Core, 5GB |
The top model has the widest gap: R5 400 over 36 months between Telkom and Vodacom, 14% of Telkom's price. On 24 months it's R6 000. Vodacom's lowest plan for this phone has the most data (5GB), so part of the difference is data, but Telkom's plan also has more than Cell C's.
More storage costs a lot
Vodacom is the only network in our data with the larger Ultra sizes:
| S26 Ultra at Vodacom | 36 months | Total |
|---|---|---|
| 256GB | R1 249 | R44 964 |
| 512GB | R1 449 | R52 164 |
| 1TB | R1 679 | R60 444 |
Going from 256GB to 1TB adds R15 480 over the contract, or R430 a month.
What this tells you
- The cheapest network changes with the model. Telkom is cheapest on the S26 and Ultra; Vodacom on the FE.
- The gap grows with the price. R720 on the FE, R1 800 on the S26, R5 400 on the Ultra.
- Telkom's S26 and Ultra prices are its in-store catalogue prices. Telkom sometimes sells the same plan for less online, so check both.
- Shorter is cheaper in total. Every 24-month deal here costs less overall than the same deal over 36 months. Telkom's S26 Ultra is R34 776 over 24 months and R39 564 over 36.
What to watch for
- The plans are not identical. Data runs from 1GB to 5GB across these rows. We show the lowest price on each network, not a like-for-like data comparison.
- MTN's S26 deals are for existing customers.
- Prices move. We read Vodacom, MTN and Cell C on 7 October 2026, and Telkom's in-store catalogue (7 October to 6 November edition) on 9 October. Check the figure on the day.
- No upfront payment is recorded for any of these deals. Totals are the monthly price times the number of months.
How to compare
- Choose the model and the storage first, then compare networks.
- Compare the total over the contract, not only the monthly price.
- Check the data: the cheapest plan is usually the smallest.
- Look at 24 and 36 months side by side.

Each network's own live catalogue: Vodacom, MTN and Cell C read in full on 7 October 2026; Telkom through its monthly in-store catalogue (edition 7 October to 6 November 2026, read by hand on 9 October) and its online shop (7 October). Only deals open to new customers are used. Totals are our own arithmetic.
